Dear Later
Privacy Policy
Effective: October 18, 2026
The developer collects no data about you.
- There is no account. You never sign up or sign in.
- There is no server run by the developer.
- There are no analytics tools, ads, or third-party SDKs.
- Your postcards, photos, and memos are stored only on your device and in your own private iCloud.
1. What the developer collects
Nothing. Dear Later has no feature that sends your name, email, device identifiers, or postcard contents to the developer. Because we never receive this information, we cannot sell it or share it.
Apple may pass some information to developers: sales figures in aggregate, and anonymous crash reports if you have turned on sharing under Analytics & Improvements in iOS. That is an Apple feature. The app does not collect it itself.
2. Where your postcards are kept
The photos, text, memos, chosen stamps, dates, post office names, and settings in your postcards are saved on your device first.
When iCloud is available, they are also kept in two places so your devices on the same Apple Account stay in step:
- The CloudKit private database: postcards and photos sync here.
- iCloud Drive: backup ZIP files are saved to the Dear Later folder in the Files app.
Both are in your own iCloud space, run by Apple. The developer cannot access or read them. If you turn iCloud off or are not signed in, your data stays on the device only. How iCloud handles data is covered by Apple's privacy policy.
When iCloud has a change to report, iOS may wake the app briefly. That signal comes from Apple. No server of the developer is involved.
3. Permissions the app asks for
The app asks only at the moment it needs something, and everything else keeps working if you say no.
- Camera
- When you take a photo for the front of a postcard
- Asked only when you tap the camera button. The photo is kept by the app for your postcard and is not sent to the developer.
- Photo library
- When you choose a photo for a postcard
- The app uses the iOS photo picker, and only the photos you choose are handed to the app. It does not browse your whole library.
- Add photos
- When you save a postcard as an image
- The app only adds the image to Photos. It does not read the photos you already have.
- Notifications
- Daily reminder, and arrival notices at one year and 30 days
- These are local notifications scheduled on your device. Nothing is sent from a server. If you do not allow them, arrived postcards still appear when you open the app.
This version does not ask for location, contacts, or microphone access. If we add a feature that needs a new permission, we will update this page before the update ships.
4. Deleting your data
- One postcard: deleting it in the app moves it to Recently deleted, and it is removed for good after 30 days. Until then you can bring it back.
- Deleting the app: this removes the data stored on the device. Data already in iCloud stays, so it comes back if you reinstall.
- Deleting iCloud data: go to Settings > Apple Account > iCloud > Manage Storage, choose Dear Later, and delete. Backup ZIP files in iCloud Drive can be deleted in the Files app.
The developer holds none of your data, so there is nothing for us to delete on request.
5. What leaves your device
An image leaves the app only when you send a postcard with the share button. You choose the app it goes to, and from there that app's own policy applies.
The stamp illustrations were made in advance and are bundled in the app. While the app runs, it does not send your photos or text to any AI service.
6. Children
Dear Later is not made for children. Whatever a person's age, we collect no personal information. If a child uses the app, a parent or guardian may want to look over the device and iCloud settings together.
7. Laws
Privacy laws such as Korea's Personal Information Protection Act, Japan's Act on the Protection of Personal Information (APPI), and US state privacy laws mostly place duties on businesses that collect and use personal information. Because we collect nothing, those duties have little occasion to arise here. This page states facts. It is not legal advice.
8. Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, we will update this page and the effective date. If a change touches the promise that we collect nothing, we will also say so in the app's update notes.
